I pay monthly to insure my appliances including my washing machine. We are key workers the washing machine has broke and they aren't interested due to coronavirus and would only come out if it was an issue with a cooker. Am I waiting my money on policies they cant cover ??

I think you are wasting your money full stop.3

yes, you're wasting your money. It's nearly always better to put a bit of money aside each month to self-insure, so you have a fund to repair or replace items as needed.1

As above - apart from the fact that it's probably going to cost you more, you're also (as you've now discovered) stuck with the availability of whoever you're "insured" with, rather than having the freedom to pick and choose from the people who are actually available.

Whilst I agree with the previous three comments about self insuring, rightly or wrongly the OP didn't.
What I would do is check the small print of your policy very carefully to see if they are entitled to refuse cover under the current circumstances. If not and you aren't willing to wait I would get somebody else to fix it then send your insurers the bill. If necessary complain to the insurance ombudsman if they won't pay.0 -
Again I have to agree with a lot said by the other posters on this but due to the circumstances right now a lot off company’s are doing only essential work right now.
Probably like your own jobs.
Cookers have always being classed as an essential as it’s needed to cook food
Washing can done by hand very successfully and was done that way by almost everyone till 50 years ago0 -
As a Key worker, do you really want some stranger coming into your house?
The reason they wont do anything is due to Covid 19, not that they do not want to. They will have to look after the safety of their staff.
You may find a local repair company that might help. But make sure it is local and not one of the national co's that offer local staff & charge a fortune.Life in the slow lane0 -

You don't have to eat hot food and I would say a washing machine is essential to ensure clothing is cleaned of any germs.

Many washing cycles are carried out at temperatures at which hand washing would easily be achievable and there are plenty of laundry additives that can be used for hand washing to ensure that the clothing is germ free at the end.adonis said:You don't have to eat hot food and I would say a washing machine is essential to ensure clothing is cleaned of any germs.1
