Lost my credit card, now have a new one. Do I need to set up a new direct debit?
The direct debit for my Nationwide CC is taken each month from my NatWest current account.
About 3 weeks ago I lost my Nationwide CC and ordered a new one. No one told me anything about direct debit, I just noticed yesterday that NatWest is showing my DD as cancelled. This is obviously because the new CC has a different 16 digit number which is used in DD as payment reference.
I rang up Nationwide today in the morning and the woman on the phone said she can assure me that my DD will be updated. The problem is NatWest doesn't show new direct debits until they are paid at least once. Anyone else has any experience with re-issued credit cards and direct debits? I just don't wanna risk any potential damage to my credit reports in case the new DD has not been set up.

Since you are unsure whether the DD will be taken, then just make the minimum payment manually via your online banking, before the due date.I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

While your card number changes. The underlying account number should stay the same (Visa does) so any DD should:
A transfer over.
B payment will go to old account and move to new one. Might take a day or two to show.
But as above if worried make the min payment via online banking.Life in the slow lane0 -
OK, thanks. If I do just a minimum payment a few days before the payment is due, will Nationwide take the rest later? In my Nationwide online banking the DD is set for full payment each month. But if I pay the minimum, I suppose the rest of the balance won't be paid off by DD even if it's been set up properly. Is this correct?

If nationwide has told you that your DD will be taken, then there should be nothing to worry about0

although you cannot see a natwest dd until the first payment is taken, cust service can so call them and IF you can get through ask them0

Agree with calling Natwest and checking, but make a note in your calendar to check on the day it's due to come out, just in case, this is usually before the due date on the statement so if there is a problem, you can just make a manual payment.0

Thank you guys, sorted now.
I messaged NatWest on Facebook where I was given a link to their secure web chat. No need to call.
The agent told me he can see 2 direct debits for Nationwide, one cancelled and the other that has the last 4 digits of my new credit card in the reference. That's the DD which I can't see yet.
