Breakdown cover during coronavirus
Options
My breakdown cover is due in the next few days. With the current corona situation, I don't need to travel for work and with the lockdown, can't go very far at all. It seems pointless renewing my breakdown cover as I can't/won't use it. However if I don't and many others don't, the breakdown companies could go out of business. They could go out of business if I do renew too! What's the best thing to do?

The breakdown companies/operators will be entitled to the various government assistance packages designed to help them survive if they have no customers. As, presumably, as taxpayer you are on the hook for your share of those payments, do you need to pay twice?0

Let them worry about their continued viability.
If you think you won't need it, then don't renew.
I'm in the exact same boat - mine's due in a few days, and I'm 95% sure I won't bother.0 -
Some Breakdown Services when you start a policy say you cannot claim for x days, just remember this.
If you start again and have an issue straight away then you may be kicking yourself.
I have had to jump start my car a few times over the last few weeks as its not being used.1 -
I still need my car for grocery shopping so breakdown cover is still quite important for me.0
