Furlough - Probation not passed

Good evening,
I started working for an investment bank on 11th November 2019 however, I did not pass my probation and had my employment terminated on 10th March. Although this was not a direct impact of COVID 19 this has now proven difficult to find a new challenge due to COVID 19.
Please can you confirm if I am eligible for furlough with my previous employer even though this is not redundancy or new role related. Obviously, I wanted to remain at the company and felt I did enough to pass. Thanks

You can ask but your former employer doesn't have to furlough you. If work is available for other employees it's unlikely they will. Try Universal Credit, if you don't have savings/capital over £16.000. Use a benefits calculator.

They have terminated your employment on the basis of not being satisfied, with all the will in the world I cannot see how you can go back to them and ask them to rehire you just for the furlough scheme.
The scheme is for roles that will otherwise not exist due to the work not being there, that is not the case for yourself. More importantly the scheme is entirely discretionary by the employer.
Im sorry if that’s blunt, it’s not meant to be. You would be best to move on and perhaps use this time to learn new skills that can be used in the future when everything begins to return to normal. Lots of places are offering free distance learning courses including the open university.

No problem, best to get straight to the point.
I do believe it was unfair dismissal but that is a completely different ball game.
So we are basically saying that it is unfortunate of the timing and that although COVID 19 is impacting me like many others now.
Thank you for the comments0 -
I don't think you will be covered or have any solid claim to argue it.
Unfair dismissal can only be claimed for >2 years unless there are grounds under anti-discrimination law.
If you did not pass through probation then you can't really be rehired and furloughed, although you could ask and try it out.
However, I think you will just be dismissed at the end of the scheme anyway and that could be in as little as 3 weeks.1 -
Hi can anyone help me? I’m new to the forum game. So apologies if I’ve not posted in the right place. I’ve been working for Sainsbury’s for 4 years now. Ive been on sick leave for almost 6 months. I’m due back in less than 11 days. It’s just me and my little girl at home. I’ve asked if I could be allowed furlough due to her being very high risk ( health problems ) they said no Sainsbury’s won’t be offering furlough and I’ll have to take unpaid parental leave. Is this right? Thank you in advance.0

Please do start a new thread for your own situation and question - but yes that is right.
You cannot expect to furloughed for health reasons. Supermarkets probably won't be offering furlough.
At the best you could only be considered for furlough yourself if you class as being in an extremely vulnerable category.
Family members with a high risk do not.0 -
Good afternoon,
I have been working for a production Company for approximately 3.5 year until October 2019 then I have been made redundant and I signed on. Then I started working for a distribution Company on the 6th of January. My probation contract was for 6 months but just a week ago I am on furlough untill then first week of May. The Company informed the chances to get back to work are every slim. What type of help can I get from the Goverment?
Thank you and regards,

You will need to look into universal credit of you are not already receiving this. Please bear in mind if you are claiming tax credits this will then stop as you cannot be on both types of benefits.0 -
Apologies and thanks a lot for your prompt reply. I will start my own thread. Regards0
