Thank you all. I will take your advice and try and find somewhere I can afford in an area I like, hopefully still within reach of the sea.£216 saved 24 October 20140

Congratulations youth_leader, I also remember your previous threads. With regards the mention of biomass, as a lady living on her own I would urge you to be very cautious if you come across anything you like which has this. My friend is living on her own in a property with a biomass boiler and struggles to lift the bags of pellets to feed the boiler, and she's in her 50s. Goodness knows how anybody older or with, for example, impaired mobility would cope with such a setup without help.Make £2026 in 2026

Thank you Slinky. Part of my fear of having to spend another winter at the house alone was the 'wood' arriving, I normally had to order three dumpy bags to see me through. I had two woodburners but only lit one in the main reception room. The man did always cover the bags so I could take my time carrying it up the 18 steps, but my knees can't take much weight any more and I was reduced to a big supermarket 'bag for life' load each time. The combination of stripped floorboards, a six foot hollow the length of the house with many airbricks plus single glazing turns the house into a freezing wind tunnel even with the central heating going full blast. I normally wear my coat in the house from October to April. I can't wait to push a button for instant heat.£216 saved 24 October 20140
