Notice pay deductions

Can I ask that if you are entitled to say twelve weeks notice pay and start a new job straight away would this affect what you should be owed? If you look on the government website all it states is any deductions from your notice pay would be from benefits that you have claimed or could have claimed during the notice period.

Is this notice being paid by your old employer or have they gone out of business and it is being paid by the government RPS?
If it is the employer paying then, if you have left and are getting pay in lieu of notice, you can start a new job without your entitlement to notice pay being affected. If however you are still technically employed during the notice, perhaps on garden leave, then you are in breach of contract as you are technically still employed so can't do other work during your normal hours.0
