Plumbing advice needed please, Geberit toilet flush valve

We need to replace the toilet flush valve but the same part isn't available any more. Geberit website suggests there are alternatives though there are several and we can't work out which is the right one. We've emailed the company but still waiting for a reply, in the meantime are there any plumbers on here who could help please? The code on the broken part is 273.317.KG.1 dated November 2004.

You may have to wait a long time to get a reply from Gerberit so, if you post a picture of your valve and also the inside of the cistern I might be able to help.

Which part has failed? If it is just the washer that is an easy and inexpensive replacement. If it is the valve that has failed or broken that is also an easy but pricier replacement.

I've recently replaced a flush valve ( a plastic clip had broken) that dated from about 2004 with a new Geberit 240.280.00.1 Twico 1 Flush Valve that I bought on eBay for about £16 delivered. It was very straightforward to install.

    Is yours a dual flush?

Google suggests that this valve will suit you but please check before buying and also shop around on eBay etc to get the best price.

Please note that only the body of the valve is supplied there. You need to reuse the existing mount from your valve so hopefully that isn't the part that has failed.

Thanks for replying, I've had a go at posting some pictures. It's a dual flush, the whole unit is broken so we need a replacement. The loo was made by Jacuzzi, I'm not sure if that's any help.

Sorry Julie, I can't help you further. Although the cistern is similar to mine, your valve is very different to mine.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will post or Gerberit or a plumbers merchants might advise you.

There should be a suitable replacement valve available, as Jacuzzi probably just used a valve from Gerberit or another manufacturer. It is just a case of identifying the correct one.

    Good luck.

I've had another thought. If it is going to be some time before you can get a new valve fitted, you could do what I did.

Your broken valve should still stop water flowing into the toilet if the washer at the base is undamaged. Leave the cistern lid off and leave the broken valve in place. When you need to flush the toilet, lift the valve manually slightly until enough water has discharged and then put it back in place. That is what I did for a few days until the new valve arrived.

That's a brilliant idea - and it works! It will certainly do the job until we can find a replacement. We do have other loos in the house so we're not desperate although this one is the most convenient. Thank you so much.
