Angelolly, If you're ever in the Traf Ctr feeding rooms and you hear someone scream "aw, gerroff" it'll be me with my 8 and a half month old sinking her teeth into my wotsits for the umpteenth time. ;D

Anyone else got one of those babies that is easily distracted whilst feeding? Thing is, mine turns around to look but forgets to let go of my boob :o

I agree John Lewis in Edinburgh is fabulous and you have really nice views.

Tho they weren't always that nice - when my daughter was a baby (she's nearly 3) the room was disgusting. Hardly any room and had a disabled loo inside it that was really just four bits of plywood round a toilet. I once started to feed her when I seen a woman go in, she wasn't disabled so that immediately got my back up, then within two minutes a smell of cigarette smoke appeared. Filled with rage I started hammering on the door and shouting to her to come out and that I knew she was smoking. I must have been really loud as a small crowd gathered at the doorway watching, meantime I am yelling even more saying what a vile disgusting person she was knowing that there were babies in the room. Eventually she came out, with cigarette stub and had to fight her way through the crowd deeply embarassed to find store manager waiting for her!
  • there is a mother and baby room by the Victory (Nelsons Flagship) in Portsmouth that is lovely - really clean.. soft feeding chairs and even a clean microwave! ::)
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)
  • Breahead Shopping Centre in Glasgow has fantastic facilites and on both floors too! Its called parent and child so any combination can enter. Its open plan but very spacious and each eare feels separate. They have:
main area for 2 changing areas leading off - very clean al facilites available and bottle/jar warmers on small shelves close by so you can heat up lunch whilst changing - very handy! The also have 2 comfy seat areas for feeding and highs are also available. At the front of the main area are 2 huge walk in toilets for grown ups/older kids and plenty of room to wheel in a pushcair. It just makes the day out so easy...
Poochy, I have to admit I stopped bf at arrouind 8 months as my son had 4 rather sharp teeth and I was getting a bit sick of bearing the brunt of it! I hope you are able to sort the problem out soon - maybe try to feed him in a smaller area where there are less distractions? .....or stick a paper bag over his head? !!

LCard, this probably didn't apply in this case, but there are many disabilities where it would help a person to use a disabled toilet when they may look completely "fine" on the outside.

Disabled toilets are not just for people with obvious mobility problems (for example, wheelchair users). Just as a few examples, people with problems like arthritis might need to use a disabled toilet so they can use the grab rails to help themselves stand up from the toilet.

Other people may be unable to lock the doors in a conventional toilet due to their disability, whereas the ones in disabled toilets are usually much easier to use.

I just wanted to point out that it is impossible for you to tell merely from looking at someone whether they are justified in using a disabled toilet or not.

I don't think that was the main point. This woman was smoking in a disabled toilet which is scarcely considerate to other users whether she was disabled or not.

I realise it was not the main point, but LCard said "she wasn't disabled so that immediately got my back up"

it is still true that you cannot and should not judge if someone is wrongly using a disabled toilet just from looking at them.

LCard made this judgment even before the woman started smoking and being inconsiderate in that way.

  • The Merry Hill Centre near Dudley has a a mixed bag. A lot of shops off there own facilities but they tend to be ropey and stinky. The centre itself has a good parent and child suite. Lots of changing mats raised up with sinks next to them. Comfyish chairs to sit and feed. I think there is a bottle warmer too. There is a big toilet which fits a pram and has a todler seat on the wall. this is right next to the creche. In another part of the centre is a parent and child toilet with 2 toilets side by side. my girls loved these when they were coming out out of nappies.

I must admit I used to just sit and breastfeed my girls on one of the benchs or sofa's dotted around the place. I have no shame and in fact I never got even a funny look. In fact I remember being helped by people on a sofa in the M&S cafe, they poured my tea for me :D
