Reclaiming PPI tax

Hi I am trying to reclaim the tax on
the interest from a number of PPI
payouts I received between April 15/16 . I was self employed at the time ,although on PAYE now and
need to know whether to go down
the R40 route or apply via self assessment ?

If you filed a Self Assessment return for 2015:16 then you cannot use an R40.

And you cannot file an amendment to your 2015:16 return now.

You need to make a claim for "overpayment relief".  Details are available on gov.uk.

I suspect you have to register the claim by 5 April 2020.  However most people aren't due a refund for 2015:16.
