Hi I am classed as self employed, I am a lorry driver but working for a agency, the agency pay me the gross amount and I then have a tax bill at the end of the year, I have set up a Ltd company which is what agencies want from lorry drivers, am I entitled to this 80% pay during this sad time with this Coronavirus, is there any lorry drivers out there in the same boat who can give advice. Or anyone who might be clued up on this type of thing.
thanks Chris

Does the agency pay your company a gross amount without deducting tax for your services? If so, only your company can furlough you, and you would have to do no work for it (for example no driving) if you applied. Also, the amount you could receive would be based on whatever your company's HMRC registered payroll recorded as paid to you.2

I find myself in a similar position, Agency worker, paid via Nova where I am a PSC of a Limited company. I am a director and the only employee. I pay tax and NI on a PAYE basis (weekly)
Nova refuse to help, my agency are sympathetic but are unable to help. My wife is a student nurse (low pay) who is working on the front line. I can get no UCAll the information I can find says I should be entitled to help as I am PAYE but I am unable to persuade the accountants to furlough me so that I am able to access the scheme.0 -
Is it your company that deducts PAYE or Nova?1

Nova produce payslips and deduct tax and NI. My taxable trading profit is provided as a salary, I pay both employees and employers NI.I have been told that because the company has no assets the furlough does not apply. They were less than helpful to be fair.0

Maybe Martin's video about agency/umbrella employees in this week's email might give guidance?0

I work through an agency under their umbrella company, but I know some of their drivers get paid through their own limited company.chrisward said:Hi I am classed as self employed, I am a lorry driver but working for a agency, I have set up a Ltd company which is what agencies want from lorry drivers, am I entitled to this 80% pay during this sad time with this Coronavirus, is there any lorry drivers out there in the same boat who can give advice. My advice is get yourself on the books of a decent agency. Except for those off sick or self isolating, our agency has all it's drivers on 12 hour shifts, 6 days a week. All leave has been cancelled.
We are now all currently either working in the food chain or delivering essential medical supplies.
The more professional drivers we keep on the road, hopefully the less they'll be having to use those slow army trucks to deliver essential supplies and holding the rest of us up.
