Groupon refund!

Hi all, 

this is is my first post on MSE so I hope I have done this correctly. I have a issue with groupon who are totally ignorant to the facts of what I am telling them about a purchase I made a while back for a break away on holiday but due to the covid19 outbreak the hotel is shut and as we all know airports are closed. I’m unable to go at any other time and I have requested a refund. I have had this on going for about a month now and their customer service team keep robbing me off with the we will give you “groupon credits” I have stated that I’m entitled to a refund due to the circumstances are none my fault so we are unable to go and I would like my money back but they are totally blanking the fact that I’m asking. Could anyone else here help me with a little “nudge” to get them to comply with my rights!

    You bought a voucher from groupon. Which is them redeemed at a retailer.
    Hence they can simply credit you for the value of the voucher. As they did supply what they offered.

    There have been several threads about this issue. It is one of the problems when you buy a voucher to use elsewhere. 

    You could try the Hotel and see if they will refund you, as they will have been paid by groupon.

  • Hi there Thanks for the reply, I have spoken to the hotel on the first off which made me have to contact groupon. This being because the hotel wanted to offer me other dates which never came about due to them having to close up for a longer period of time and I couldn’t accommodate those dates for November 2020 so they said we’re happy for groupon to give me a refund in which I had to email groupon a confirmation of this chat with the hotel only for them to tell me after 3 weeks that they will only give me credits. I will try the hotel again and see what they say but I doubt they can do much as they said already they were happy for groupon to issue me a refund. If not then I’m stuck in what to do. Regards
  • I have tried to contact the hotel but no luck due to the circumstances we are all in. Is they’re anything else you could think of in regards to getting my money back?

    If the hotel won't refund you then you're stuck because Groupon have supplied what you asked them to. A voucher.

    You bought vouchers, not a service with the hotel - the hotel are shut, so you get the vouchers back with Groupon.
    That's what you paid for; eligibility for a cash refund is entirely at the discretion of Groupon and I can't see it happening given the circumstances.
