Wizz Air not cancelling flight but I have no options - Urgent Help Please!

We have a flight booked from Birmingham to Cluj tomorrow (2nd April 2020) - returning 9th April 2020 - 4 people flying with Wiz Air and the "service" we have received from them is appalling and I am completely stuck with what to do without losing my money, so was wondering if you could help?

If I try to cancel the flight they have advised that this is a voluntary cancellation as the flight is still going ahead (even though the government has advised against all but essential travel, which this is not essential but a holiday) and the flight is in high demand (their words) therefore I am subject to cancellation fees (80 euros per person).

If I try and re-book the flights to a later date they will charge me over £215 in change to booking fees - even though my current flights cost a total of £415 and one I found on their site for the end of June would only cost a total of £155 if I was to create a new booking!

I have tried to call them multiple times but they tell me the same thing (above) every time. I have wrote to them on Facebook many times as well, which is completely ignored. Their Complaints page on their website says that they cannot accept any requests, so not even a form to complete.

I now have less than 19 hours until my flight is due to leave so really need some help with this please!

    Would your travel insurance help?

They have said that it is only covered for 100% refund if Wizz Air cancel the flight.

Looks like it's time to do some maths.

    A. You cancel: Get £415 back and pay £320 in cancellation fees.  Net cost £320 and no holiday.
    B. You fly as planned: You've spent £415.  Net cost £415 and (presumably) a restricted holiday.
    C. You re-book: £415 plus £215.  Net cost of £630 plus (perhaps) a less-restricted holiday.
    D. Cancel and re-book as a new booking: £320 fee plus £155 new price.  Net cost £475 plus (perhaps) a less-restricted holiday.

D looks sensible to me.  Only £60 more than going tomorrow and with the chance that June would be a better time to travel.  On the face of it, £60 extra is nothing compared to what many people are facing.

Given that what you have been told is correct I don't know what you hoped to achieve by calling them repeatedly! Then you compounded the problem by contacting them many times on Facebook. So, all you have done is made it harder for someone with a first time valid request to get through!

If the flight ends up being cancelled then you will be entitled to a refund. If it is not then the terms and conditions of the booking regarding refunds / changes etc apply. It is not the airlines job to decide whether the reason for your trip, which they have no means of verifying. is essential or not.
  • Same thing happened to me, but with a flight at the end of June.  Hungary not accepting UK travellers, UK expecting 2 weeks quarantine when I get back (but I have to work)
I only wanted to rebook, I wasn't after a refund.

There doesn't seem to be a resolution:
The Which? site has this, which you'll have to Google as I can't post links yet:

"UPDATE: Having chosen not to travel, Hannah received the below email today (Thursday 26). A passenger on the flight she would have taken was diagnosed with coronavirus. ‘We would kindly ask you to contact your local health authority immediately’, it says. Wizz Air is still flying to Budapest and not offering refunds for those who follow FCO advice and do not travel."
