My son arranged car insurance as a new driver with RAC not cheap but best deal around . Booked the fitting of the Blackbox . Then corona struck . Out of the blue letter arrived say we are cancelling insurance because engineer can’t fit blackbox due to corona virus , ok we’ll try someone else , however my son now has to say when applying he has had a insurance policy cancelled ,no fault of his . This make any new insurance horrendously expensive . What can we do Help

Hi,
I saw a page here similar to your son's predicament, I also have had my insurance cancelled due to late submission of documents requested for. I received the letter on the 30/03/20 which was dated from the insurance 24th. I completely forgot about the letter has we'd been affected by the C19. I got an email from the insurance company that the policy has been cancelled on the 01/04/20. I called and explained to them the situation and unable to resolve it. So i emailed the complaints dept and the cust serv dept with all the requested document explaining again that my partner is NHS key worker and due to the loss of a fam member we have been unable to attend to less critical situation. It seems that these new cheaper insurance company are eager to take your money and get rid of you at the slightest opportunity they have. Our car was broken into and the steering wheel was stolen , the car has been taken by the repairer and we dont know when the car will be returned due to closure of the suppliers. so we sent off the key and V5. Only for them to send another letter requesting that we send the documents, why didnt they ask for all these before. Drive like a girl - Install the box are very difficult to deal with. As of now they are claiming they sent me an email to remind me , which i have checked my inbox and spam folder and the last correspondence i got from them is -how they helping to deal with Corona virus. I will email them a copy of that email as the last correspondence i got from them. I spoke to the ombudsman and was advice to send an email explaining the situation and thety should respond within 8 weeks and if am not satisifed with their response then contact them. I am already disspointed with their services because i did not declaare anything fraudulent on my application, i have all the documents as requested and i am being punished for an unfortunate circumstances. They also want to put a black mark on my wifes name as shes is the insured driver and she will also loose her NCD due to non-fault. I suggest your son write to complaints team as well and if no joy the ombudsman. Insurance companies always looking to criminalised innocent people for innocent mistake. I will update as the case progresses.0 -

It would be the same as if he went to some a particular insurer to ask if they would insure his brand spanking new Lamborghini, and they said, sorry we don't insure that type of car. That is not classed as having cover declined.
It should not affect his ability or to seek insurance elsewhere, nor the cost
I accept that some of these 'blackbox' insurance polices are cheaper in some circumstances especially for new drivers, but if those have all been temporarily removed from the market to new applicants, then your son will have to take a traditional policy, which may cost more.
I suggest he contacts an insurance broker who specialises in car insurance for young and inexperienced drivers.
