Furniture in storage during lockdown

Options
Hello there, my mum is having her bungalow redecorated and modernised so she had put all her furniture in storage. All the furniture was due back out of storage on 6th April but due to the lockdown the company has said it will have to stay in storage until 29th April and have sent her a bill for £288 for this period . What rights does my mum have with this being issue, she is ready for furniture to come back and it isn’t her fault that they can’t bring it back , how many other people will be in the same situation at the same storage facility it seems like we’re being robbed

As the contract is due to end on the 6th and they are the ones not allowing you access they can't charge you fees for the additional storage that you neither want nor need. It would be different if you were on a rolling contract with no set end date or if you were unable to get the furniture back for your own reasons but you had fixed term storage and you are ready for it.

In order to get the furniture back though you might have to pay (under protest) then claim the money back from them, possibly issuing a court claim against them if they are unreasonable.

If the company turns around and says ok remove your property,  is this viable? There is a very high chance the lockdown will continue and possibly get tighter, so you would not be able to collect.

as has as has been mentioned , can you/she go and collect it.  The storage facilities around here are still open for access
  • Unfortunately I’m over in yorkshire and my mum is in Shropshire and is 76 so we were relying on the storage company to pick up and redeliver

I would phone some van rental companies to see if they could help. Man with a van doing several trips?

Is there someone nearer that could help her?

She should write to the storage company and state that she expects her furniture to be delivered on 6th April as per the agreement. State that as the move will involve no contact with humans, then she cannot see why they cannot fulfil the contract.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I had thought along the same lines  but there may be an issue if the delivery driver has to go in to the house to deliver the furniture, most if not all delivery companies are dropping on the door step and not requiring a signature ,so no contact
