NHS Isolate letter & Wages

So today my mother received the isolate NHS letter due to being at risk to the virus.
She's worked full time in this care company for well over 10 years.
How is she only entitled to SSP? Applying for Universal Credits just seems to ridiculous in this circumstances. The Government and doctors are asking her and others to stay at home to avoid the cluster of people being admitted to the virus.
Company won't furlough as the company is still running. But going from 168hr paid join to absolutely nothing is so pathetic
You might as well take the risk and still be able to pay rent, bills and credit cards etc.
Can anyone offer any support on what to do

Unfortunately SSP is correct in these circumstances and it will then be universal credit to top up her pay. Your post mentions she is renting there will be an element of the universal credit to help cover the costs of renting. www.entitledto.co.uk or www.turn2us.org.uk are entitlement calculators you can out her details into this and it will give you an idea of what she might be entitled too.
Credit card companies are trying to work with customers at the moment who may have problems meeting their payments, it would be worth contacting them to see what you can arrange with them.
My local council is offering schemes to those affected in the extremely vulnerable group, it is possible your local council is doing something similar.1 -
Thank you for the response.
What an absolute joke this all is. People who have worked years and years, worked through everything. Then being put to stay at home due to the risks and only get a fraction of what they earn.
I'm gobsmacked at the government's decision

I’m glad that this situation is opening people’s eyes to how inadequate and inhuman our ‘safety net’ has become.4 -
Short of going to a full-on socialised scheme where everyone off work gets the same monthly payment regardless of who they are (like what Australia looks to be doing) then I don't really know how much more we can expect from them. The measures that have come out have been quite extraordinary - although I realise if you are suffering loss but not benefiting from any scheme then you won't at all agree.
Personally I don't benefit in any way as I can work from home and not likely to lose my job in the foreseeable. I just feel lucky I have that security and support through this crisis whereas I could just as easily not have with the same job for a different organisation.
Kicker is going to come in the next financial year(s) when the government will seek to recoup the money it had to spend. That will inevitably mean a rise in taxes or possibly some kind of levy. Therefore, there is every chance you could miss out on help now, then end up having to pay for the help given to others.
That's life I'm afraid.0 -
I can see the problem - lots of people who plod on through viral illnesses and carry on working suddenly stopped from working when they feel perfectly fit enough to do so.
Worked many a winter with temperatures higher than the patients and having to leave the building because coughing too much - bit this year it is different0 -
But John put a post up begging employers to put their staff on furloughed even when they're told to isolate?
Sadly I can't link but he posted on FB/Twitter 2hours ago0 -
