Back Payments British Gas

Having looked at my credit score recently I noticed a large sum owed to British Gas for non payment of Electecity supply. I switched to I-Supply back in 2017 and assumed they looked after this Utility. It now seems that only the gas moved. The email address British Gas had was an old one and I didnt update it with them as I didnt know they supplied me. In a nutshell I wouldn't have discovered this had I not been moving property. They say I owe them around £2,500 for the missed payments and can only pay them back over 5 years while I remain in the property. As we are due to move (pending COVID19 restrictions) this will move to a 12 month only repayment option. How is this fair when I had no idea that I owed money in the first instance? They haven't sent anything other than emails which I never received . Any advice would be welcome.

Did you not notice your ISupply bill was to cheap .

Do you have any evidence from Isupply that you switched electric .

To be honest after switching (and it was way cheaper than British Gas) I assumed the money was for both gas and electric. I can't look back at emails as I don't have that account anymore, which has been part of the problem unfortunately.

Just to be clear, the address you were at in 2017 is the address you are still at now?

When you stopped paying BG in 2017 they never sent a single letter to point out that you owed them money?

Were BG sending you paper bills in 2017 and did these bills just stop... ?
