118118money help please!

Apparently 118118 has had a data breach by hackers, they have said only affects phone calls but their systems have been taken offline for over a week. I have a card and a loan but cannot check my balance and do not know what I need to pay. This months payment has not been taken. Phones are not working, online chat only. I spoke to someone who could not answer any of my questions and told me to go to a cash point, even though I have just come out of hospital and I am having to self isolate as I have the covid virus!. Further more my wife received a txt yesterday saying her credit limit was being increased but when I asked the advisor I was told that they were not increasing credit limits and could not confirm or deny any comminuction from them!.

When you say 'this month's payment has not been taken', do you mean you pay by direct debit? If so, you don't need to worry about how much to pay.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.
  • Yes my loan payment has not been taken, usually by direct debit, but I was told I have to make a bank transfer for this months payment. But they did not tell me how much I needed to pay and I can’t remember. Also I don’t know what the balance is on my card either so don’t know what to pay.
  • I’ve also been on trustpilot and people are now saying their cards have been declined and do not work at cashpoints, this is very worrying

It's really not up to you to be making bank transfers if they are unable to collect direct debits. In light of the breach, which I haven't heard anything about, I would be very wary of sending money to a company that seems unable to carry out the most simple of transactions, i.e. collecting payments.
Wait it out and, if they get arsey in future, tell them that you kept your side of the agreement. Just keep the money to one side.

Further to the above, finance companies have been asked to show forbearance to people who are having difficulty with payments during this crisis. I'm sure the powers that be would take a very dim view of a company that told one of it's customers who has actually had the virus to go out and about to make a payment. It's almost laughable.

I know It’s disgusting and it would appear from a review someone left on trustpilot that I am not the only one it has happened to.

Could you not just check your banking app / statements and see how much your loan payment usually is, it's unlikely to vary (much, if at all) per month?
