RAC renewal

Hi all, new to this so bare with me.
Long story short, I just renewed my RAC membership, during which I questioned the £37 admin fee which they now seperate out as a stand alone fee. I was told on two occasions when I phoned that everyone pays this, regardless of insurance/breakdown cover each year.

Obviously I questioned what it covers and well, didn't really get a response. Both times I was told that it covers things like changing details to a policy. I argued that there are no changes (in my case they were just auto renewing trying to charge me more) so surely I didn't have to pay this? To which both operators went silent. One did say that it covers possible detail admin changes throughout the policy. So I questioned if I should get this back if I dobt amend my policy becuase that's what it's for.  I went on to say that the policy therefore doesn't reflect what I need it for and would like to opt out of this admin fee, which I was told that everyone pays it on re industry regardless.

Am I missing something here? Or have I stumbled onto something?

You are perhaps missing the fact that loyalty does not pay.

Just switch between AA, RAC, Green flag. Cheaper to be a new customer then an existing customer usually. The admin charge is basically a con as they know  x% of people don’t bother to switch so are just fleecing them for what they can.  All pretty similar service levels if you do not want to go for one of the cheaper companies.
