Cheap Energy Club Switch - double MPAN trouble
I've recently started renting a new house and (before COVID-19 kicked off) requested a switch through Cheap Energy Club from standard rate Npower to EON. I recieved a call and email a few days later from EON saying that the application had not been successful as the broker (MSE energy club) had only supplied one MPAN number, and it's mandatory to submit them as a pair. They told me to contact the broker and get them to submit both MPANs to facilitate the switch. I emailed MSE (providing both MPANs) and received the following response 9 days later:
"You have submitted an electricity switch to E.ON for one meter, which is for the MPAN no. XXXXXXXXXXXXX.
If you have two separate meters and would like both to be switched the the E.ON tariff, please let us know and we can escalate this with the supplier for you."
I then explained the situation again, requesting an escalation, and am waiting for a response. I understand that delays will be caused by staffing issues at the moment, but I'm not progressing and I don't know whether I'm better off looking for another option while my switch is still active, as the expensive Npower rate is worrying me. Is there a better way of contacting Cheap Energy Club? What's the best way of getting this sorted?

Hello Dalehud and welcome to the Forums.Thank you for your interest in joining us. You're right, customers like yourself whose property has two electricity supply numbers (Meter Point Administration Numbers - MPANs) and want to switch to us need to apply for both MPANs. Where only one MPAN has been requested, the switch is automatically rejected with a request to reapply using both MPANs.Gerry1 is normally right and I would also usually advise to contact us directly. In these unprecedented times, this is one part of the business that's temporarily unavailable. With greatly reduced staffing levels due to Covid-19, we're prioritising emergencies, the vulnerable and keeping customers on supply.Similarly, contacting the broker to re-apply using both MPANs would usually be an option. Again, our Broker Liaison team has been temporarily stood down. We'll be better placed to help once we come out the other side of this crisis. I thought it best to let you know how things stand as you might wish to make alternative arrangements. Many thanks for your understanding during these difficult times Dalehud.Malc
