    It seems to have completely crashed now - I can;t even get the home page
    Why would 1000's customers be accessing the website at this time on this day ?

    Same reason as you probably .
    Many are just trying multiple times .
    Their service provider may be having server problems on the farm in Spain .

    Just logged in to my account took me all of 15 seconds and site appears to be running at normal speed.
