I don't think i will ever be able to make my own outfits which is the reason i bought the sewing machine in the first place but i give up too easily at the first hurdle so time to change that for the better i thinkcathybird said:Well done doingitanyway and bloomfelt

Bloomfelt, learning to sew is an incredibly useful thing, I have thought on and off for years about learning how to do it properly. I only sew in a really basic way. I do darn socks, very badly, but enough to hold them together. One of the reasons landfills are so full of cheap discarded fashion is that people no longer sew.

Take a simple pattern to work through, you will be surprised what you can do. Take time to prep it, cutting and tacking together take the time but getting this right helps in the long run!bloomfelt said:

A no spend day on sat for me, but yesterday (Sunday) I was tempted to online shop!!!! Pair of flip flops on the way, but were in the sale! In need of a pair as I only have 1 pair a year, threw out last years which I'd had for 3 years and worn through so I'm verifying the purchase as a need but still wasn't a nsd!2 -

I often get repairs done at the dry cleaner's (jeans worn at the knee etc) but have often thought it would be useful to be able to do it myself. They do a really good and professional job and it's cheap considering, but even so. It should be quite simple, I would have thought. Maybe not? One of these years I'll get a sewing machine and try it. I used to sew decades ago so would probably remember the basics.MoneysavingmadGem said:Take a simple pattern to work through, you will be surprised what you can do. have bitten the bullet and bought a couple of fat quarters - hoping that will motivate me to actually make a start now i have spent some money. my step daughter wants to make headbands having looked on pinterest for ideas so hoping that will be fairly easy.
In this weather having one pair is definitely essential even just for the garden
