Student Rentals in Sept 202

Hi All,
I am forward planning, if both sons cannot return to uni in September, given the current ongoing climate, and also if the uni’s continue to only teach online is there a way to protect us having to pay for student rentals even though my son’s won’t be in the property?

Both sons have a rental agreement from Sept 2020 with private landlords, using a student letting agent. A deposit has been paid for one rental, and the agreements have been signed for both properties.
Is there an option to end these agreements without having to pay for the full years contract?
Tnx in advance for your advice 😊

With Cambridge and Manchester Universities announcing that lectures will be online for all or part of the academic year I am also interested to hear what the legal position is for students who have already signed up for accommodation starting in September 2020.0

For privately rented accomodation then a signed tenancy agrrement will still stand and you'll be liable for all the rent for the coming months.
