SSP while colleagues receiving 80% pay on furlough

I have coronavirus and have been told I will only be receiving SSP, despite having received full sick pay for all previous sick days off with the same company. My contract says sick pay is discretionary. I can’t help but feel this is really unfair, with my colleagues (around 90% of the workforce) - who have all been put on furlough receiving 80% pay if they have symptoms. So I’m losing out on a weeks pay for something I can’t avoid. Is anyone else in the same boat?

Will you be furloughed once you are well enough to return to work?  If so, I would definitely ask them to reconsider if I were in your position, as it won't cost them any more to furlough you now!
Hope you are feeling better soon.

You should receive SSP for as long as you are signed off for then once fit to work you should get furlough pay:

If you’re on sick leave or self-isolating because of coronavirus (COVID-19), speak to your employer about whether you’re eligible - you should get Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) while you are on sick leave or self-isolating, but can be furloughed after this

Thank you - I will be working full time from home once I am well enough to return to work and my bosses are just saying the sooner I start working again the sooner I will be back up to full pay :(

Edit: Deleted my last post as I read it again.
Your colleagues get 80% pay via the Government once furloughed - but if you're being kept on and are going to be working, it's right that you'll only receive SSP.

Remember they'll be taking a pay cut once on furlough, whereas you'll be on full pay once back - also remember it seems the employer values you if they're keeping you active rather than putting you on furlough. :)

Your bosses are right, you were on SSP as you were unfit to work, they can’t just stop that now furlough has come along & make you a better offer, even though the company are worse off doing it this way, they’re paying the SSP where as the government would have paid the furlough pay.
