Not applicable for Furlough

Hi,
I started working for a new employer on 9 March and was unemployed between 16 Feb - 7 March.  I was not on any companies payroll and did not claim benefits as joined agencies and was going for interviews.  Been told by my new employer that i am not applicable for the Furlough scheme.  Have asked me to go back to work from today for 20 hours with a salary cut of half.  I feel lost as have always paid my NI and taxes and when I really need the help I am
not getting it.  Being a single mum I cannot survive on the new salary.

Thank you

    Hi Anji,
The Furlough arrangements were put in to effect for people who were in employment on the 28th February.
Are there any jobs you can apply for, for the other 20 hours you would have normally worked?
This is a very difficult time for a lot of people.
You may also be eligible for assistance - have a look at one of the benefit entitlement calculators such as "entitled to" or turn2us which will advise if you are eligible for any help financially.
    Thanks

  • I have spoken to my agency to see if they can assist with finding other employment.
what I don’t understand is if I am working for the company then I should be entitled to furlough.
have also applied for universal credit but it’s the waiting game that doesn’t help as I need the financial help now.  There’s no one to make an apt with either as the line just rings off.

If you can get UC, then you can apply for a UC advance payable back at 1/12 per month until repaid.
