Monday to Friday Nurse Lodger

I have a Monday to Friday lodger who is a nurse at the local hospital in Bristol.

He has been self isolating with his girlfriend whom he lives with in Wolverhampton. She developed symptoms but he has not yet, and is due to return to work the week commencing 6th April. Under the current government regulations no one is allowed to move properties though and should remain where they are currently living.

My dilemma is what should I tell my lodger? He is a key worker, I am due to be furloughed this week therefore would appreciate rental income still. He is high risk regarding the virus because he works at the hospital and is likely to be redeployed to ITU because he has previous work experience in that environment. I want to remain safe, and I don't want to put him in a difficult situation but I feel I am put in an impossible situation.

Thanks

  • Do you see the reports of the doctor who was kicked out of his lodgings because his landlady was scared? What was your immediate thoughts when you read that story?

When did the girlfriend start showing symptoms? As I understand it, she has to remain isolated for 7 days whilst he has to isolate for 14 days so I'm assuming (always dangerous) that his return coincides with the end of the 14 day period.

Have a look at the guidelines for people who are extremely vulnerable and see if these would work for you.

Yes no one can blame you for being concerned but if he doesn't live with you, what's the alternative?

is there pretty crappy position to be in, for both of you, as an alternative solution are any local hotels accommodating NHS staff for free?
