Holiday Cancelled - Insurance wont pay out.

Good morning,
Long time follower but first post. Hi!!
My wife and I and two friends were due to go skiing to the French Alps a few days AFTER all ski resorts were shut down. Our flights were with BA and straight away we were able to get a voucher for these and so were happy with this.
The issue is with the chalet company we were due to stay with and the two hour transfer from and then back to the airport. The chalet company emailed to tell us of the shut down of the resorts and stated within their terms and conditions that due to an act of 'force majeure' they were unable to refund our money or provide any credit. We were given a letter to which we could use to claim through our insurance companies.
So this is what we did.
Yesterday, I received an email from the insurance company stating a policy exclusion regarding epidemics or pandemics as declared by the world health organization and therefore they were not able to consider the claim.
The transfers were booked and paid for prior to travel also but as these were not cancelled in time and so we were not entitled to a refund.
The chalet was booked on an American Express card so was going to contact them as a next option and our friends booked the transfers on a credit card so thought we could try them.
Is there anything else that we can do to try and reclaim some/any of our money?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
M

There are layers of protection for holiday bookings of various sorts as holiday companies go under at an alarming rate.

If the supplier says no, you try the insurance co (as you have done) and then the CC company next. Exhaust their procedures in getting a resolution then escalate to the Financial Ombudsman. They will decide whether the terms of the agreement (including FM) were fair/reasonable or whether they will have to pay up. The FOS have more experience with these FM clauses than anyone so use the process as stated on the Insurance company/CC company website.

Thank you for your reply - I have spoke with AMEX this morning and they are submitting a dispute. Will wait to see what happens and if not successful will escalate to the financial ombudsman.
    Thanks again
