Student - private rental

My daughter is studying at uni.
last week she notified private landlord (letting agent). That she was vacating temporarily in view of the lockdown.
the lettings company have written to her insisting that full rental should be paid or they will charge late penalty fees ( they state breach of contract)
what rights, if any does my daughter have?.
Ps.
Her rental was contracted to end of June which affectively will be end of the potential lockdown period.
thanks

It is a recurrent problem highlighted by many posters, and all we can come up with is to look at the lease terms in the (probably vain) hope that there is some sort of break clause that might apply.

Yes - she will be liable for full rent, council tax and utilities that apply to her tenancy. This is the default position unless she has an agreement that gives her relief as a student.

She may be able to apply for assistance to pay rent if there are schemes she is eligible for. I'll leave it up to other posters if they know options.

Landlords may impose fees associated with late payments. I am in Scotland and such fees are illegal but your daughter may not
be if she is in another part of the UK.
I'd get on to the agent asap and explain the situation and her plan. They may be able to waive fees and hold off hassling your daughter if she falls into arrears. Plan financially to repay the arrears in the immediate future.

I'm assuming she's been receiving a student loan? If so then she should use this to pay for rent and any other bills that need paying. Student loan will still be received because my son is a student and he's due his last payment very soon.
Her student maintenance loan will be classed as income for all means tested benefits. Student can only claim means tested benefits under certain circumstances.
Supermarkets are taken on extra staff maybe she can apply for work to help with those bills?

Are you guarantor? Lots of students have no credit record and parents have to countersign to pay.
