Advice needed please

We have had our skiing holiday cancelled and we heard on Friday that the company we booked through would not give us a refund and said we had to claim on our insurance. They haven’t offered us vouchers or the option to rebook just that we need to claim on our insurance. 

They say they are following ABTA guidance (which I have just sat and read through and can’t see that anywhere on there). Is this correct? What about if you didn’t have insurance or insurance that didn’t cover this. Could we go back and say we want a refund? 

Any advise would really help.

How did you pay ?

We split the invoice with friends who we were travelling with. We paid via credit card so will be raising it as a section 75 but our friends paid with their debit card.
