Holiday in August

Hi everyone - I accept that it's probably too early to advise on this, but just wondered if anyone else is in the same situation and might be able to help.
We're due to fly out to Tenerife in August (package holiday). We have paid £200 of a £800 deposit so far, the balance is due in the second week of April.
We have contacted our holiday provider to find out what we need to pay if we cancel now - the cancellation fee up to 70 days before we fly would be £800.
We have holiday insurance with Nationwide Plus so I believe we would be covered if the FCO advises against travelling.
Should I pay the balance do you think?
If I choose not to (it would be a choice at this stage because obviously the current FCO advice doesn't cover the time we are due to fly).
Under the circumstances it seems like throwing good money after bad. I can just about stomach losing £200 but I suspect the holiday provider will insist on paying the balance even if we cancel, so perhaps it makes sense to pay the balance now and keep an eye on the FCO advice, and reclaim the whole £800 if and when we are told it is not advisable to travel.
Any thoughts welcome!
