Hi all, I have a question that I don’t think has been covered yet. I’m self employed (less than a year) and I have been working as such for the same company. The company are wanting to put the self employed on a contract from end of February to help us out but of course this means there is no paye set up. Now, I know the government want businesses to help everyone out, but is this above board? Of course, I don’t have a paye there and am registered self employed in the eyes of hmrc. Can anyone advise? Thanks so much!

Current guidance is that you must have been on the PAYE roll as of 28 Feb.1

That was my understanding so they cannot legally backtrack it to end of February? We wouldn’t have payroll number, tax code or anything.0

I don't think it's physically possible even if they wanted to, the date and use of the PAYE system is partly an anti fraud measure so it seems highly unlikely it could be simply circumvented.1

that’s what I was worried about. Thanks.0
