*sigh* I really need to find the source because on the news they spoke to one of the scientists who'd done the 'how long does it live?' study. They concluded UP TO 72 hours; that was with a very high dose under laboratory and only a fraction of a percent of the virus was left after that time - the vast majority had died off within the first few hours. So while yes, up to 72 hours there is potentially a miniscule risk (and if you're someone with virtually no immune system, you absolutely do need to know that), they don't actually know how long it would survive in real-world conditions. But with sensible precautions post should still be safe for the vast majority of us (I say 'should' because obviously if someone coughs or sneezes on it before handing it to you, the risk goes up! But I for one trust our posties not to be doing that.)

Because of someone being fined for taking their EBay parcel to the Post Office, I contacted EBay Live Chat last night to see if EBay have put anything in place to allow sellers to temporarily move their 'for sale' listings into a Hold file. They haven't done that......yet.....not sure if they will or not but the person advising me said that she could make my Buy it Now listings show as Out of Stock and I can contact them again to remove the Out of Stock status before 180 days are up, otherwise I'd lose my listings, so that's what I opted for. She said that any I had listed under Auction then I'd need to go through these and End them but that I'll need to relist these before they disappear in 60 days. When I relist them, if I decide that I want to change those ones to Buy it Now, I can do that and then contact Live Chat again and they will also change those ones to Out of Stock.
I hope this is helpful for some other people who might be anxious about going out to post non essential EBay parcels. I've been feeling so much more anxious, as I'm sure many people are currently with the worrying about the coronavirus, that doing this with my EBay listings has given me one less thing to worry about at the moment.

No one has managed to show any evidence that someone has been fined for using the PO which is something the current rules allow for anyway. I don’t think basing our business decisions on unsubstantiated reports is useful , I’m not suggesting for one moment that anyone wishing to close their shop is wrong, I just think we all need to make informed choices .

if you chose not to sell then you need to cancel your listings or put holiday settings on, your choice. I would not be letting eBay make choices or changes to my account, they don’t care about the business and we as sellers need to take responsibility. You have decided to close your listings and if that gives you peace of mind then that is exactly the right decision to have made.

    BBC News reported:

A woman has been fined for breaching coronavirus restrictions after she refused to tell police who she was and why she was at a railway station.

Marie Dinou, 41, from York, was arrested at Newcastle Central Station at 08:00 GMT on Saturday.

North Tyneside Magistrates' Court imposed a £660 fine under the Coronavirus Act 2020 on Monday.

Dinou, who did not enter a plea, was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £66 and costs of £85.

If you read the whole article there was also a possible issue about fare evasion which actually forms part of the fine.

I’m not sure what this has to do with legitimately going to the PO or PO Box with eBay items though.

Here’s another link to the article, but again it has very little to do with legitimately going to post eBay parcels
