British Airways

Many people being left high and dry by British Airways and I wonder if it is something that you might like to take up with them? Or at least bring to the public’s attention! This is something that I feel the public should know but I do not have the social media presence to get it out there

The situation at BA is that they have laid off many staff since the COVID-19 situation broke. BA do not seem to want to use the Governments scheme to retain staff, Furlough them and pay them 80%.

The specific case I refer to is at LGW and involves customer services hosts I.e check-in/boarding, however it is almost certain that this extends further than this particular part of the operation. These are staff that meet the government criteria for the scheme. This decision has meant that many BA staff are now left with no job and a practically zero % chance of getting another job in these troubled times.

I have an email written by an employee which I can share , and the response (I also have a copy of this) from the lady who I believe heads up BA customer services in LGW, it  basically stated that BA would not be taking advantage of the government scheme and therefore no staff that were let go would be reinstated.

The BA hallmarks that they instil into their staff are

Create moments that show that we care

Listen and do the right thing

Share our knowhow to make a difference

Clearly BA are not living these values themselves and are quite happy to let staff go regardless of the consequences to them. I cannot believe that an iconic organisation like BA would not do the right thing especially as there is limited costs to them and also the potential damage to them from a public perception is high.

Anyone able to advise or help these people, some of which left perfectly good jobs to pursue a career at BA only to be treated so shabbily

Basically, they do not want to pay everybody and claim the money back from the government. They also know when they do get back up and running it will be slowly and by which time the scheme would have stopped and then would still have all of these staff, some of whom may have acquired more rights over the time.
