Redundant

I was made redundant before 29th feb but paid up until 30th April.  I was offered a job by another company but it has now been withdrawn because of covid 19.  I asked my previous employer if they would reinstate me during the crisis but they have said it was only set up to support employees made redundant as direct result of covid 19.  Is this correct.

If needed look at eligibility for Universal Credit https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/

There are online calculators to help you assess entitlement  https://www.gov.uk/benefits-calculators

Be aware that claiming UC will end any Tax Credits, Housing Benefit or other means tested benefits you currently get.

You will be excluded from UC if you have savings over £16,000.

You may also be able to claim Council Tax Reduction from your local council.

Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
  • I was made redundant and I Was told I did not need to work my 3 months notice so I am paid up to 30th surely I am still employed.

You were made redundant in February , before any of us were worried about Coronavirus or could imagine the impact it’d have on the uk. The company made you redundant because they’re struggling, nothing to do with the virus, right?

the redundancy reversal is intended to help those who were made redundancy hastily  before furlough was announced. Why would a company that was struggling before and has already made you redundant and paid you 2 months notice now optionally choose to take you back on their payroll, pay you 80% wages (that they’ve already paid you) then wait & claim that money back off the government and risk having to make you redundant again at the end of the furlough period? I don’t think most people would jump at the chance
