Furloughed employees 80% query

Hi all

Bit confused regarding payroll of 80% to furloughed employees.

Is only 80% pay put through on the payroll?  If so, how will HMRC know that it is only 80% and so the full amount of that needs to be reimbursed to employer?...will this be dealt with through the online portal (once created)?

You will tell them what the full wage is when applying and they will reimburse 80%. See

That is my understanding. You do need to get the affected employees' agreement in writing. See the guidance.
