Cosmetic write off and just bought back from insurance company. Best way to re-insure?

15 year old Mazda estate got a small dent which was my fault and they wrote off as non structural. Car worth 1200 and insurance offered this. Bough back from them for 200 and put gaffer tape on dent. Garage checked and confirmed road worthy. Same car as before and 1000 up. Need to reinsure in next few days. Only worth scrap as official write off. What is the best way to insure? Car only worth a couple of hundred scrap. Quotes around 300 and 500 to continue with my original insurer. Third party no cheaper it seems. Any suggestions. Cheers.

Try some quotes with other insurers, what else? But good luck getting through on the phone at the moment. I don't think online quotes cater for write-offs.

Just re-insure at normal.  These insurance companies have the database so will know.  I never tell mine my car is a write off.
Were you at fault and was claim put through your own insurer?  If it was through the third party's insurer you still may be insured on your original policy.

OP says they were at fault, but doesn't mention whether a 3rd party was involved. (I guess there must have been else there'd be no point in an insurance claim for a minor dent on such an old vehicle).

Yes my fault. Left in gear and forgot and my car jumped into the car in front so minor. My insurance company kept me insured as this happened in Jan. Just renewal in a few days but £480 and other quotes around £300 but cannot specify online that my car is a cosmetic write off.

  • Then when you phone up and ask about it the price will probably bump up. Alternatively maybe you can just take an online quote and if it is ever queried you can say you were never asked about it's write-off status; a bit of a grey area.

It is incumbent upon the insurer to ask questions that they deem relevant.
