no claims discount
Options
Been on hold for around an hour with insurance company now.
Does anyone know, if my insurance certificate says I have 6 years no claims discount, when my policy ends in a few weeks time. Does that mean when I apply for car insurance, will I have 6 years no claims when I come to renew or 7 years? Would rather avoid any admin costs if possible.
Thanks,

You have six years.0

Your renewal invitation will say how many years you have at the start date of the new policy. If your current policy had 6 at the start in April 2019, then when it expires you will have 7.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

If the 6 years NCD is shown in the documents that were issued when you took the policy out then provided you haven't made any claims, you should have 7 years NCD on renewal.
If however, the 6 years NCD is shown on your renewal paperwork, this is what you will have upon renewing the policy or taking out a policy with another insurer.0 -
the renewal document hasn't come yet and my insurance runs out on 23rd April, so would've expected by now, it says 6 on my insurance certificate, and stupidly can't find any of my previous renewal quotes. The online chat person said 6, but the person on the phone said 7, so now totally confused.0

As per others ... if you had 6 years NCD at the commencement of the current policy, then at the commencement of the next policy (with whichever insurer) you'll have 7 years NCD provided that there have been no claims in the previous 12 months.
Whether 7 vs 6 years makes much, if any, difference to your next premium is anyone's guess.0 -

If so, your renewal may have come this was and could be in your spam folder or you may have deleted it in error.0 -

Fat chance.Insurers leave it as late as they can get away with to send out the renewal documents, as it reduces your opportunity to shop around for a better deal. I would say a fortnight before the old one runs out is more realistic. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
