Paying furlough employees

I have 2 employees I need to furlough, I understand the process regarding contracts etc and that we can claim back once the portal is set up.
What I want to know is in the meantime do we just work out 80% of their wage and then process as normal? I use sage and they don't yet have anything set up to process this.
Thanks in advance!

There are formalities to go through first. Read

Ask Sage how to do it.0 -
I have asked sage and they say speak to hmrc that then say revert to the online guidance. as mentioned above I understand the contract etc was just how to pay in the meantime.

Just change their pay rate presumably? There must be some forums on Sage that might give guidance?0

Depends, are you planning on just letting the government pick the tab for your employees or will you top up to their full salary. If you're one of the employers who will do the latter than carry on paying them as normal. and get the grant when it becomes available.0

Unfortunately I cannot open my business so have no income and cannot afford to pay them as normal, I wish I could!

You can apply for the Business Interruption Loan
https://www.businesssupport.gov.uk/coronavirus-business-interruption-loan-scheme/
You pay first and then claim back every 3 weeks under the scheme.
