Furlough can also mean reduced pay - your employer has no obligation to tip up the 80% government grant.

Depends on what your contract says to if they can put you on reduced pay or not have a read.
Maybe, but they can also say, accept reduced pay or we will make you redundant. My wife was given the choice of being furloughed or made redundant...

That depends on your contract of employment and if it says they have an obligation, they have an obligation. The Furlough scheme is simply a form of financial compensation. It does not rewrite contracts.

    • When on someone else's be it a road, a pavement, a right of way or a property there are rules. Don't assume there are none.

  • well here goes!!! Monday 23rd march myself and my collogue where told to go home we would be furloughed … I was happy with this... but then got a snotty text the following tues evening telling me I need to decide what I was doing.. I come in and get paid or I stay at home and not get paid.... I told her that all my family were self isolating for 14 days as my daughter who lives with us had symptoms of covid 19 and even lost her sense of smell and taste. she basically bullied me into coming in... so I went back the next day even though I was supposed to be in isolation. I said I would come back under the understanding that no one was to be let into the office and no other staff. I work in a small firm husband and wife worked form home who own it, their son was working from home and my colleague was being furloughed as she had asthma and been poorly.  she had a letter from her GP saying she was to stay home for 12 weeks. there was a few heated discussions. so my colleague is on furlough and they are topping up her wages of 20% and getting her to do some bits of work from home... so after the first week of working on my own in the office my boss then comes back full time and now just got a phone call to say bosses wife now coming back in as she has been at home for 3 weeks... also son 3 and a bit weeks ago went to Ireland for s stag do and came back with the virus and was very ill... he apparently is now coming into the office to bring some work in... I really don't feel safe... ironically I work for a firm of solicitors. they have caused me so much upset about coming back and have been really quite horrible I really want to report them for getting my colleague to work from home when she shouldn't be but not sure how to go about it... and also for putting me at risk,, my 18 month old granddaughter also lives with us and I am very worried that I could give it to her... I am so annoyed and also upset that they are taking this so lightly... I have been working for them for 13 years and been very loyal to them
