in Credit cards
i'd like to pay off my remaining device contract with o2 this comes to around 300 pounds do you think this could be done via a credit card to get points/cashback or will it be classed as a cash advance. I always pay my statements in full so normal interest isn't an issue but cash advance interest is payed from day 1 even if the statement is payed in full.
I did an offer with a monese/amazon offer where i got an extra £15 pounds voucher only to find my tesco credit card classed it as a cash advance and so then had the advance fee along with 2 months of trailing interest to pay it was only afew pounds but it still irked me i won't be doing that again but it was my own fault.
has anyone done this with o2 and can confirm its classed as a purchase rather than a cash advance ?

Paying a phone bill should attract a cash advance fee or interest, however it's up to the lender. I've paid my EE bill numerous times with a credit card (Aqua,Barclaycard and AmEx)0

my giffgaff ( uses O2) £6 a month is deducted from my JLPFS credit card each month by giffgaff and not as a cash advance.

No good asking 02. You would need to ask, or check the T/C of your card provider. As they do not all work in the same way. Seems Tesco are the worst.
Personally I have paid deposits to 02 on CC and it is a purchase.Life in the slow lane0 -
Why would paying a bill ever be regarded as a cash advance? Apologies if I am missing something here.0

Thanks for the reply. So would that logic apply to anything where you had originally taken out an agreement to pay monthly and then decided to settle it early eg house insurance, council tax (if you can pay by CC), Sky subscription etc etc0

I'm with Tesco Bank and have paid my EE phone bill with it to earn Clubcard points and it's treated as a purchase.
It would be down to your credit card company and what their stance is for paying off credit with credit is, I'd guess? It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -
