Some Halifax questions

Hi, just like to ask a few more questions about my Halifax Student Current Account.

1. I just got my Visa Debit card today with £100 cheque guarantee. The expiry date is for May 08! Which means it is only valid for 6 months. Any reason why would they give me a card with such a short validity?

2. Some posters have suggested that I try and generate activity on my account (my main account is still Lloyds), to show that it is being used. I am thinking of setting up standing orders (weekly) to pay my Lloyds credit card with a small amount (so that the 4 payments will cover the minimum payment required). Is this a good idea?

Thanks.
