Can I apply for Universal Credit now if I’m going to be furloughed by my employer?

Hi everyone. Apologies if this has been asked and answered before.
I was working on a zero-hour contract for an events company as staff in an art gallery until the gallery was closed down on the 18th March. It was PAYE. I’m aware the company are presently looking into using the government’s furlough scheme.
Can I apply for Universal Credit now while waiting for that to happen? If I did, how would this affect my being accepted for being furloughed?

Many thanks!

Russ

Yes you can. It will make no difference to whether you are eligible for furlough. What will happen is that if you are furloughed the earnings you receive will be taken into account when working out your UC entitlement (If any).
