I am also sure that the residential routes which are mainly done by the self employed drivers are busier but the industrial/retail routes are generally quiet

It is not a case of the company being uncaring, the choice for you to isolate or not is your own choice. As your company has stated what help is available if you do but you want more ( I am sure everybody does) , why do you think your company has to pay for this? They are not a charity, are you going to pay for your boss to self-isolate for 2 weeks? If they give it to you everybody will want it.
Yes the work may have dried up but they are still making money, if they furlough all the staff how will they?

Unfortunately you don't know my employers track record with how they treat their staff!!!
Quite surprisingly my senior manager didn't really know what I was even talking about when I approached him, I don't think everybody does want to be on Furlough at all, if it wasn't for the fact I had a vulnerable partner at home who if contracts this terrible disease will most probably not survive i wouldn't want to sit at home for weeks on end , I would much prefer to be out there helping the community, it's the government paying not the company, worked all my life never claimed anything, funny you mention the bosses actually, they are all isolating at home with their families keeping safe. Yes they are making money but not enough as the CEO will tell you!!!!
There is no point in having excess staff there, it just increases the chances of spreading the virus to the workforce, their families and our customers who are actually still open0 -
It is the government paying yes, but originally the company are paying and have to claim it back. A lot of people seem to think it is an automatic right and all companies need to do is claim and the government will smile and pay up regardless. Which to begin with they may but when companies submit their accounts the next year there will be a small army of accountants going through looking to see which companies claimed the money and what affect that period had on their takings/profits etc. They might find themselves having to explain why they claimed it if they did not need it. Meet the criteria. I am sure that companies are well aware of that which is why many do not want to claim it.

I have read about what you are saying and yes I think they will have to be careful, but I think it is inevitable that most companies will have to shut or scale down especially if there is a full lock down at some point0

Yes you are probably right more companies will be told to shut down or will scale down and the rules will change, but at the moment the government policy is currently

I started a full time job on the 9th of march 2020. I'm a coach driver and they is no work at the minute because of the coronavirous. Everyone is getting the 80% wage apart from me because I wasn't on the payroll before the 28th of Feb 2020. Is they anything I can do?0
-
At the moment all you can do is see what benefits are available to you. The date may change that you needed to be on the payroll from, although if they do I do not see how they will stop employers just employing friends and them claiming money for a few months. So there has to be a cut of point somewhere.
