Furlough 80% wages

  • I have been off work for over a year through sickness but was due to go back in March.  As I am over 70 I am having to self isolate for up to 4 months so could not return. Am I still eligible for 80% of my wages?

Yes. Ask your company if they are willing to furlough you. It's a scheme your employer has to apply for to replace the wages they would be paying you. If you're able to WFH your company may prefer you do that and stay at 100% wages in that case.

my partner will be on furlough come Monday. We work for the same firm and I am considered ‘key’ to the business and will continue working from home but on 75% pay, 30 hours a week (although likely to be less hours as work decreases). Most of the company is on 80% to sit and home not working so I am a little jealous of that but they have offered me 2 extra days holiday per month that I’m working to take next year. Although it does suck to be on 75% and working while others are furloughed at 80%, at the moment I am just grateful to keep my job. We work in the cruise industry so who knows how long it will take to recover...

Depends on your salaries. You realise there is a cap on what furloughed people can earn? If that's in line with their current wages, great. If less, they will be more than 80% under their salaries.
