We have a holiday booked for corfu 1st week in july, its not a package but made up of seperate flights and airbnb accommodation.
I cant see it being sensible or call it what you like to travel at this time so ive looked at the cost of moving the holiday.
If we had booked Easyjet then the change would have been no charge. Looking to change to last week of september.
Outgoing flight is Jet2 and their total cost to change is £37. Thats pretty amazing for 4 people.
Ryanair want to charge the following to change:
Price breakdown
New fares (3 x Adults)€ 599.97
Original fares (3 x Adults)€ 269.97
Difference€ 330.00
Change seats fee€ 0.00
Change Priority & 2 Cabin Bags fee€ 0.00
Change Fee (3 x Adults)€ 195.00
Total price:€ 525.00

There are actually 4 of us but i made 2 bookings as there were ONLY 3 SEATS LEFT AT THIS PRICE on booking so i made a subsequent booking for 1 person at a higher price.

Whilst writing this post my ryanair session timed out so i put the info back in and got this - literally 10 mins apart:
Price breakdown
New fares (3 x Adults)€ 515.97
Original fares (3 x Adults)€ 269.97
Difference€ 246.00
Change seats fee€ 0.00
Change Priority & 2 Cabin Bags fee€ 0.00
Change Fee (3 x Adults)€ 195.00
Total price:€ 441.00
YOU COULDN'T MAKE THIS STUFF UP!!
How can they get away with this compared to the rest of the industry?

You're being a little disingenuous saying easyJet would let you change for free.  easyJet are waiving their change fee, however any fare difference has to be payed.

Ryanair are doing the same for customers in April and May, but they are not yet doing it for customers in July as it's a bit further away.  Hence your cost to rebook includes a change fee and the difference in the fare.

Im OK with the fare difference which you can see in the figures above.

The current Ryanair policy is clearly that they are not waiving the change fee for bookings in July.  This may change, it may not, nobody really knows for sure how this situation unfolds. It may be that they eventually do waive the fee.  You are in a difficult situation though given that you have different bookings with different providers.  That's just one of the risks of booking independently unfortunately.

That's just the problem though... you can't compare accross different airlines because not only do they have different policies over Covid-19, they have different pricing and fare structures too.... is the £35 with Jet2 a fare difference or a change fee?  I'm assuming they are waiving the change fee and it's a very minor difference in fare?

Hi, no there is no fare difference with Jet2 - i suspect the original flights were more expensive than the new ones. The £35 is the change fee for all 4 people.
The cost so far - for everyone with Jet2
    Bags
    £2.00
    Total Change Fee
    £35.00
    Total:
    £37.00

It's well known that Ryanair are often the cheapest airline if you do everything by their rules and don't want to change anything, in which case the charges are often high. That's the price you pay for selecting on price in the first place.  It's a calculated risk.

Yet at the same time, they are offering refunds to those who have had flights cancelled, whilst every other airline, tour operator, travel agent is trying to pressure people into vouchers or credit notes.....

The calculated risk here is the DIY approach to making a holiday using multiple suppliers.  I've no issue with it and do it often, but people need to realise the potential issues. Different suppliers may end up with different policies and it could be far more complicated than a package through one supplier.

The recently removed Volcanic Ash Forum on this site had very similar themes... albeit that was a much smaller scale disruption (who'd have thought that at the time!)
