Thanks. Sorry, I'm panicking a little here.

What does it mean that these people could still pursue him?

So if I exported all payees over a 12-18m period into the closure document?

Surely there's a more workable way for the family in such a predicament?

Technically a bank has to stop the payments no matter what when asked too.
We used to get asked to stop payments to payday lenders or other companies where people sign up for 12 months (say) but after a couple of months don't want to pay anymore.. While we can, we have to advise people that as with any agreement to pay companies. They have the right to pursue the debt via other means.
TBH. If we are simply looking at some online companies all they will do is stop access.
Often these are dating, adult related sites etc.

I assume you have tried the Secure Messaging facility on their website, assuming your father has set up online banking?
I had a Capital One card until recently. Settled in full and closed and sent them a message and they did it that way for me.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

I recently closed a Capital One credit card without any issue at all - I selected the appropriate options and was through in a few minutes - I can imagine they'll be quite busy at the moment though based on what's going on in the world around us - so maybe keep on trying. Once the account has closed - the account continues to exist - as in my case I received a refund on something I bought a month after I closed my account - they sent me a cheque with the balance to pay back into my own current account.
