Deleting email? and or account?

Question, If I no longer need a email, do I need to go trough some sites I had registered with to delete there account before deleting email ? 
I was thinking of just deleting my email but I read online that the email goes back to the list of can be used,

It makes sense to do this as otherwise no one would be able to contact you if there was an issue with your account.

Up to you.  You don't have to, but it depends on if you want to use those sites again.  You can always sign up again with another email.  I dare say there are no end of people who have multiple accounts on multiple services and don't even know it.
