Hi all,
Moved to new property that supposedly was with Lumo for electricity. tried to open account with them but only online site said that my house is not currently being able to be serviced by them. So I switched to BG as they were my provider previously ( took over Breeze). Now the smart meter that is in the house only displays ‘welcome to BG’ and showing no reading. It has been a week now and no change. When I called BG they said ‘oh well, we will estimate then’ . I am not happy about that. I want a meter that works asap but they are not willing to even considerate until month maybe couple months has passed. what is the best course of action from here?

You need to find the website of your local power distribution Co. That will allow you to find out the supplier registered for the property. Assuming it wasn't BG then your switch will end up a right mess if you haven't got an account with the deemed supplier!!

Be aware that you may be billed by Lumo as you where in a deemed contract from moving in .

The thing is I did try to get in touch with Lumo but there is no contact no. only website. When I entered my address they said they don’t supply to my address. Then tried ovo as they are a family company but they didn’t want to know. So I felt I was stuck.  oh dear.

Deemed contract exists with whoever supplies the property before you move in .
Register with them then free to move.

Have you used the link I supplied? Once you know who your distributor is ,it should be possible to find out your actual supplier from their site.

I mean thats good for most people but what about those in new build houses that were not the normal network.

As far as I know they still exist and have not been sold back to the usual appoiontee. DNO does not specify areas only GSP does. (SOUT for instance got in on the act everywhere).

Though it has been a few years since I paid attention to deatials like that so who knows!

OP. So you made a problem and do not like it. You should be able to get around estinmates by reading the meter (meter not pointless display) yourself. You may have to press a button on the gas to wake it up.

Metering work has changed to the essentials only at the moment (as it should). You are on supply. It is not essential.

Thanks carrot007. Although I found your comment quite abrupt ( I know I created issue therefore I am asking for best solution idea) it did guide me to pressing button! Such simple thing but for someone who never had to deal with smart meter only manual one, quite unusual to have to press onto meter! I know it sounds ridiculous!

thank you as I finally managed to read my meter and that is what I was after.

Sorry I can be that sometimes. Did not mean to be. Just passing on the info our meter working agents have to us. If was all very quick! one day, cutting back, day 2, emergencies only! (not even new supplies unless say for a hosptial!).

It's a crazy time. Wish you well! At least my point that all smart meters can be read manually got though somehow ;-)
