Old Style Daily thread Sunday 29th March

dumpling

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.

Good morning everyone
Thank you all so much for your condolences yesterday. Steve had an ok day in the end and although he was obviously very sad, he managed to carry on being the lovely soul he is. The kids took the news in their own unique way as expected and we are all looking forward to a few months time when hopefully we can have a celebration of her life as she was a wonderful woman and will be very much missed.
I am in much demand at the moment from my family and friends who all want to know how to fill their time now they are stuck indoors for the foreseeable future. They all want to try a new craft/hobby and so far I have suggested knitting, cross stitch and card making as that is what I do. I was planning to make up packs of paper dolls for my little nieces and nephews to make with some blank cards and a glue stick thrown in as an activity I hope they will enjoy. Now it looks as though their parents need the same too. All my years of agoraphobia are finally paying off, it's like I have been in training for this moment
. Seriously though I do feel I am coping better because to me it is quite normal to stay home, what I am missing though is hugs from my grandchildren, Jemima and Lilly (not that Lilly is a hugger by any means).
The weather has turned a little bit colder but it is still dry and bright most days. I fancy some faggoty pea stew for dinner tonight. It's a quick and easy meal and uses up some of my freezer stocks as well as the sprouty potatoes. I am trying very hard to use up food rather than throw anything away. I was upset yesterday when I went to make a sandwich and the whole loaf had gone mouldy, it was such a waste. Ah well, Steve managed to pick up a couple of fresh loaves from the supermarket so we are being much more careful about using them up in time. I have placed an order to be delivered Monday from our local bakery of not just bread but some nice treats for everyone to keep their spirits up. I have used them several times before all this virus stuff happened and know they are really good. They posted on Facebook that their output had tripled over the last couple of weeks so it's great that so many people are using them now.
Ok, I am having to fend the cat off as he wants his breakfast so I will go and sort that out. I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, please stay home and stay safe, you are all very precious to me. Take care xx

Morning everyone
dumpling - thanks for starting us off, sorry to hear your sad news, but thinking of you all x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH watching catchup tv, I'm on here and enjoying my first cuppa of the day. DS1 still in his pit, don't expect to see him for a while. DS2 settled and happy.
Cold and blustery here - we had a heavy rainstorm during the night.
Lunch today will be roast lamb, roasties, mash, carrots, swede, cauli/broc cheese, peas, yorkshires and gravy. Dinner last night was chicken pie, chips and beans for the menfolk. I had some bendy veg I found in the bottom drawer of the fridge, stir fried and then added some soy sauce and some noodles - very nice it was too, and a portion left that's in the fridge.
Work was quiet yesterday. I managed to get mum and dad some bread and milk, still can't get any strong white bread flour and skimmed milk powder - but the shelves were better stocked and they were being very strict letting people in - only so many in and so many out, everyone spaced out too.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, it's starting to get light here, looks dry out there.I had another early wake up, so thought I might as well get up.Dumpling, I'm glad Steve picked up a bit yesterday, poor soul. You and I are in accord at the moment - yesterday we took a bag down to DD's for Dgd - i'd put in card blanks, some old card making mags with Easter crafts in, and some card embellishments and patterned paper. Also I put some glitter card in, she likes that, and did a few die cuts for her to use. I just handed it over, we had a little chat then we walked home. Dd texted later to say Dgs was delighted when she went through the stuff, it'll keep her busy for a while. i hope your young folks enjoy the packs you're making up for them. I've also got a bag of sprouty potatoes to use!Another day ahead, there's ironing to do and the usual tidying,, nowt new there then.I'll probably pop back later to see what everyone's up to.Thinking of you all in these strange times we're going through, take care folks14

Good morning everyone.
Dumpling I was not here yesterday and was sorry to see your sad news.
I did my last work call yesterday and that's it now, other than the occasional keep in touch call.
Nothing much else to report, am thinking of those with unwell family members.
Keep safe and warm on this chilly dayI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back14 -
Good morning folks.Just for a moment I thought that I had actually slept late until I realised about the clock change. 🤣
Yesterday I occupied myself doing some Rainfall Rescue data input. It's both fascinating and boring at the same time, I'm enjoying being useful for a while. The fridge is restocked, we have plenty of books and we are well. I hope the same can be said for everyone here.Happy Sunday to all.14 -
Morning folks and thanks for the start DUMPLING. The sun is doing its best to shine but keeps getting blocked by cloud. And brr it feels cold.
Another day of CBA in store for me I suppose, I must drag myself out of this slothful state I am in.
DD's day back at work wasn't as bad as she feared. Full staff quota and the panic about possible symptoms in a couple of those in their care proved to be a false alarm - for now. The affected wing is still closed and they are hoping the hospital are stringently testing any old folk they are putting in their care to recuperate and get back on their feet.
She got home to find an ambulance outside her house which alarmed her. It was actually for her next door neighbour who had suffered a stroke. She's only early to mid 60's. Her husband was in a right state as he wasn't allowed to travel with her or visit the hospital due to isolation rules. They never had children so he has no family to support him. I'll see what news today brings. They have been really good with my DGDs over the years with not having any of their own.
I have a gammon joint out to put on for lunch which I will have with assorted veg and treat myself to a few roasties. The stock will be used to make soup as usual and all meals for the next few days will be gammon based in one way or another!
Have a good day folks and copious amounts of ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. That'll be all of us then! Thinking of our poorlies (RR) and recuperating (NELS) in particular. Take care all xx

Morning All
So not only do I not know what day it is I don't know what time it is either! I woke up around 5 again so got myself organised and went for a walk, through the houses and then back along the river. I took some bread for the ducks but they weren't interested so the gulls came out in force and ate it all.
I sowed some peas yesterday, will see what else I have in and plant some more. I'm trying to get some compost delivered but no joy yet, perhaps it's a bit early. I did order a storage bench and a sun lounger yesterday, should be delivered on Friday.
The piper was great yesterday, just a few minutes but it was enough to lift everyone's spirits, he's promised to come out on Thursday to pipe for the applause for carers.
Have a peaceful Sunday, take care. XX14 -

Good morning all,
I almost had a day off from house jobs yesterday. I did clean the french windows which were splashed with dirt from the HT's jet wash endeavours. I also made gingerbread again. It's part of the HT's survival strategy apparently.
My "to do" list is still fairly long. I seem to be adding more to it than I'm actually getting through although there are a couple of easy indoor jobs that I could do today.
Take care all of you and stay safe12 -
Morning
Deceptive weather here perfect blue sky but freezing cold. Had a sloth day too yesterday but its really not a good idea as my leg just gets worse so its back to little and often here. Couple of things I want to watch on planner today so Ill use the ad breaks as movement time. Got a chicken in my shop yesterday so will have that today with a pile of veg with a portion of rhubarb crumble it was only a tiny chicken though so may if Im lucky last twice not my best buy I expect at least 4 meals out of a chicken nowbut can't really be choosey at the moment. Also MUST make a banana loaf for next door no excuse now.
Mum is back to stressing me out. Her neighbours rang me last night to let me know shed been out knocking on their door asking them to change her watch time they tried to keep her at a distance and said to leave it on the step today and they would do it then she was back an hour later asking them to do it again in fact she rudely said to them "Looks like you've forgotten me" Not sure what part of STAY AT HOME she hasn't got and I confess to be pretty angry with her. Not only is she putting herself at risk but her neighbours too grrrrrr. Phoned her but I was too mad really Ill try again today. Wouldnt mind but she has clocks in the house and of course Alexa.
Hope everyone has a good day at home TA keep finding small smiles if you can (a gammon lunch is one) and sloth is a good look at the moment so what the heck. RUBES special hugs as always Stay safe all xx13
