Credit Report Queries...

Just doing a routine check over my three reports, and have a few questions...
1. I applied for a Halifax CC last December, and got it. Great.
They checked Experian and Equifax under Halifax. But then they checked TransUnion under Bank of Scotland. I know Halifax and BoS are part of Lloyds Group, but is this allowed? If I were to apply for credit from another provider which checks all three agencies, wouldn't this look like I applied to both Halifax and BoS?
2. Does anybody know if Virgin do a hard search or soft search for a credit limit increase request?
3. A hard search by HSBC from January last year has dropped from my Experian and Equifax report, but is still showing on my TransUnion report. Do TransUnion keep them for longer than a year, or is this something I should dispute?
Thanks!
