Requirements to drive as a carrier (parcel deliveries)
Hi,
thanks in advance for any help.
I am looking for work as my normal job has dried up.
I am currently a self employed sole trader and might be able to pick up some tempory delivery work on a self employed basis.
I have a
.5ton white van with insurance on it for business use and normally only use it for taking my kit between places.
I will ring the insurance company on monday to confirm i am covered to work self employed as a carrier/delivery driver but the policy looks like it covers transporting goods for other people for reward so hoping i wont have to pay any extra!
Apart from the correct insurance what else do i need?
Do i need any cpc or anything? Tachograph?
Are there any limits on how many hours a day/week I can drive? Rest periods? It is a 3.5 ton van.
Mot runs out in 3 weeks (its all good though as far as i know) is it exempt from one at the moment? Save me £40!

Not sure on your question but my local supermarkets are looking for delivery drivers. May work better as you will be using their Van's instead of yours1

For courier work you will need the correct level of business insurance plus Goods in Transit insurance.2

My local supermarkets do not need drivers at the moment. I may find that job if i travel further away but then i will be using my van for that travel anyway.
I do have business use insurance on my van, it does cover me for carring goods for others for reward but I do not know if it covers the value of the goods themselves or just means i am allowed to carry them so i will check this tomorrow.
Thank you

You will need to ask the specific question of your insurers re the business insurance. No one will employ/contract you without the separate Goods in Transit insurance.se2020 said:My local supermarkets do not need drivers at the moment. Write a '<' followed by a "3", then tilt your head sideways, to the right. It's a shortcut for an emoji. But a bit of a pain if that's not what you wanted.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
